Ti West

Ti West is an acclaimed filmmaker, associated with the Glass Eye Pix / Scareflix group, who works on the border of psychological genre and exploitation filmmaking.  As a writer / director, his work includes the feature films The Roost (2005), Trigger Man (2007), and the forthcoming Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and The House of the Devil

Before those features, West wrote and directed the short "Prey," while a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; he also has created short films as DVD extras for The Roost and Trigger Man.  Two technicians on "Prey" were Peter Phok and Graham Reznick; like West, Reznick grew up in Delaware.  At SVA, one of West's teachers was Kelly Reichardt (River of Grass, Old Joy); she connected him with Larry Fessenden of Glass Eye and Scareflix, who executive produced and appeared in both The Roost and Trigger Man, and also has been involved with Cabin Fever 2 and The House of the Devil.  West, Phok, and Reznick have worked on several subsequent Glass Eye and Scareflix titles.

Trigger Man, made rapidly during breaks from the long post-production of Cabin Fever 2, is in many ways an evolved version of "Prey."  Each film's dominant location is a rural Delaware valley, where a forest cliff looks over a stream on a row of empty buildings.  In both films, characters flee almost completely unseen lethal aggressors.  The Roost similarly was shot in rural Delaware, and concerns flight from danger - though that film's aggressive bats are often seen, albeit not in much detail.

West also is among the 20-something, internet savvy filmmakers whose works have been championed by Matt Dentler, formerly of the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.  Joe Swanberg, a prominent filmmaker in that group, directed the "making of" featurette for Cabin Fever 2; Greta Gerwig, Hannah in Hannah Takes the Stairs, stars in The House of the Devil

Composer Jeff Grace scored both The Roost and Trigger Man; in 2008, Grace released a CD of that music.

Ti West grew up in Delaware, and lives in the Los Angeles area.  He is represented by the ICM agency, Los Angeles.

Trigger Man was released in association with Cinema Purgatorio.  No further formal collaboration is planned at this time, though of course we wish him much success.
