Many congratulations to Don Krim and Richard Lorber on the creation of Kino Lorber, via the merger of Kino International and Lorber HT Digital.
Krim’s Kino, and Richard Lorber‘s previous companies, are my favorite film distribution companies of all time. Since I first noticed Kino and various Lorber logos on VHS tapes, then read their names in the program notes of far-flung cinematheques, I have been Don and Richard’s customer, student, and fan. More recently, I have been fortunate to work with both gentlemen and their companies on many projects. That has been a great honor. For most of 2009, my company Cinema Purgatorio was on retainer to Lorber HT Digital; over the last few years, Kino has released a handful of films that Cinema Purgatorio propelled toward them. In the new constellation, we retain a continuing, positive relationship, though not as close as before, and I am now a fan of their combined efforts.
